One minute, the Zambezi River flows flat and lazy, spreading around palmy islands and large lagoons where hippo wallow and crocodile lurk. Next, it spreads out to almost a mile in width and thunders down a hundred metres, streaming into the Batonka Gorge in a steaming, roaring wall of water, casting rainbows to the skies.
